The Labour Court recommended against the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation’s claims for a location allowance for Bantry General Hospital casualty nurses and for a G.P. Liaison Nurse. The recommendation was signed on 22 November 2011. The union sought the €1,858 annual allowance for nurses in the hospital’s Casualty Department and a liaison nurse role to direct patients to appropriate services. HSE South said the claims would increase costs. The Court found the Casualty Department was not an Accident and Emergency Department covered by the allowance agreement. It also declined to recommend the liaison nurse claim, describing it as an operational issue and saying it was reluctant to express a view on HSE operational needs.
