Labour Court recommends €1,500 for unfairly dismissed Temple Bar Hotel worker

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court recommended €1,500 compensation for a worker whose dismissal from Temple Bar Hotel it found unfair. The recommendation was dated 15 February 2012. Guests complained about the worker’s conduct during a vending machine problem on a night shift. He said he followed the hotel’s policy and was courteous; the hotel cited colleague statements, a Trip Advisor review and CCTV, and said he was dismissed for gross misconduct. The Court found the worker’s behaviour warranted a disciplinary sanction but did not amount to gross misconduct justifying dismissal. It recommended compensation and said management should clarify procedures for after-hours vending machine problems and provide relevant staff training.
