Labour Court recommends Unite accept AGI CCTV plan with safeguards

By Aoife Loughran

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court recommended that Unite cooperate with Agi Ltd’s plan to install additional CCTV cameras, after the company provides evidence of insurer and customer requirements and revises its data protection policy. The recommendation was signed on 17 April 2012. AGI said the cameras were needed to protect staff, assets and products and meet customer security requirements. The company said they would not be used to monitor performance, productivity or attendance, or for disciplinary purposes except to investigate suspected gross misconduct retrospectively. Unite said existing cameras were sufficient and raised concerns about performance monitoring. The Court recommended that the company provide documentary evidence of insurer and customer requirements and revise its data protection policy to reflect its assurances. It recommended that Unite cooperate with the installation on that basis, with the process completed within six weeks and the arrangements reviewed after 12 months.
