Labour Court recommends restoring Dublin Aids Alliance staff pay

By Ruairí Dolan

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court recommended restoring affected staff pay in line with HSE-linked grades and continuing their increments after Dublin Aids Alliance cut pay amid funding losses. The recommendation was signed on 20 December 2012. The Irish Municipal, Public and Civil Trade Union said workers should not bear the funding cuts alone and sought restored pay and increments, proposing alternatives including shorter working weeks and unpaid leave. Dublin Aids Alliance said it had no viable alternative to pay reductions, ending health-insurance payments and a future pay freeze. The union had previously agreed to a 5.5% pay reduction aligned with corresponding HSE grades. The Court said there was no justifiable basis to break the established pay link because those grades had not faced a further reduction and were protected under the Public Service Agreement. The union was prepared to agree to the employer’s proposal on VHI cover. The Court also recommended discussions on options to address the Alliance’s financial difficulties, including the union’s proposals.
