Labour Court recommends restoring Mallow hospital allowance for eight workers

By Saoirse Doyle

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court recommended that HSE South reinstate with full retrospection the location allowance for eight workers at Mallow General Hospital. It signed the recommendation on 28 April 2014, finding the union’s case well founded for those claimants. HSE South said a reconfiguration removed the hospital’s Accident and Emergency Department, ending the basis for the allowance under national criteria. INMO argued that workers had been assured the allowance would be protected and that its withdrawal caused financial loss. The recommendation applied to the eight claimants in this case; the Court made no recommendation on whether the allowance should be paid to nursing staff in other units.
