Labour Court recommends Dublin City Council pay eating-on-site allowance

By Tadhg O'Sullivan

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court recommended that Dublin City Council pay an eating-on-site allowance to the workers represented by the Irish Municipal, Public and Civil Trade Union, effective from 29 November 2013. The dispute arose after the council refused to pay the allowance, which other colleagues received. The council said the workers did not qualify because they had adequate facilities. The Court found that 154 of 185 similarly graded staff received the allowance and that there was no material difference in the facilities available to the two groups. It recommended payment from the date of the conciliation conference. The recommendation was signed on 10 September 2014.
