Labour Court recommends Beaumont Hospital pay half of three nurses’ arrears

By Fionn Kelly

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court recommended that Beaumont Hospital pay 50% of retrospective specialist allowance payments due to three clinical nurse specialists, in a decision signed on 5 October 2016. It recommended payments back to June 2006 for Ms McCormack and Ms Long, and back to 19 September 2011 for Ms McCarthy. The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation represented the claimants. The Court found that failures by both the claimants and the hospital contributed to the non-payment. It said the hospital had no stated policy on how payments should be activated for eligible employees and recommended a clear policy covering course-fee reimbursement and applications for the specialist allowance.
