Labour Court recommends compensation for Dublin City Council worker’s lost allowance

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court recommended that Dublin City Council compensate a worker for the loss of his Storeman’s Allowance after redeploying him to another depot. Its recommendation was signed on 23 January 2018. The worker had appealed an adjudication officer’s recommendation following a disciplinary dispute. The Court said the disciplinary process fell far short of best practice: the worker was not given the written complaint or the witness’s evidence, and other matters unrelated to the incident were considered. It did not recommend returning him to his former depot, citing an irretrievable breakdown with his foreman. Instead, it recommended compensation calculated using 1.5 times the annual loss, based on €75 a week.
