The Labour Court recommended that Shoe Zone reject Mandate’s request for enhanced redundancy terms for staff at its Blanchardstown store. The recommendation was signed on 9 February 2018. Mandate argued that the company’s early lease exit benefited it financially and that long-serving staff should receive statutory redundancy plus two weeks’ pay for each full year of service. Shoe Zone said the store was loss-making and it had consistently applied a package of statutory redundancy plus one week for each full year. The Court said Mandate had not made a convincing case for increasing the established package and accepted Shoe Zone’s submissions about losses across its stores in Ireland and the United Kingdom. The union’s claim failed.
