The Labour Court recommended that Musgrave Wholesale Partners (Limerick) make €2,000 available to improve its self-service canteen after a dispute with the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union. The recommendation was signed on 19 February 2018. The union sought compensation for 15 workers after the company replaced its subsidised full-service canteen. It argued the change removed a valuable employment benefit and said the company had saved €30,000. Musgrave said the new arrangements were a greater benefit and an ongoing cost. The Court found the new arrangements were not a lesser benefit and did not warrant compensation for individual staff. It recommended that the €2,000 be used once to improve the canteen offering for all users, in consultation with the union. The Court recommended that the union accept this in full and final settlement.
