Labour Court awards David Hasala €1,501.42 in minimum notice appeal

By Saoirse Doyle

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court overturned the dismissal of David Hasala’s minimum notice complaint and directed his former employer to pay him €1,501.42. The decision, dated 13 May 2024, found he was entitled to two weeks’ notice after his employment ended by reason of redundancy.

Hasala worked as head chef at Mounthawks Inns Limited O’Donnell’s Bar and Restaurant. He said he did not receive minimum notice when the restaurant closed. The Court accepted his uncontested evidence and found that he had more than two years’ continuous service. The Adjudication Officer had dismissed the complaint after neither party attended the WRC hearing; the respondent also did not appear at the Labour Court hearing.
