Labour Court rejects Kieran O’Connell’s appeal over withheld increments

By Orla Quinn

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court rejected Kieran O’Connell’s appeal over withheld increments, upholding the adjudication officer’s finding that his Payment of Wages Act complaint was not well founded. The determination was dated 7 April 2017. O’Connell argued the two-year freeze had ended and sought restored increments, including retrospective payment from January 2016. Foroige said its commitment to review increments did not mean it had agreed to restore them. The Court found there was no agreement to pay increments from January 2016. Without such an agreement, the increments were not properly payable and no deduction had occurred.
