In 1988, the Labour Court recommended that Sealink compensate Byrne and Smith on the same basis as other staff after the company relocated. It did not recommend conceding the three other disturbance-payment claims brought by the Transport Salaried Staffs Association. The recommendation was signed on 9 December 1988. Sealink had agreed to pay £1,000 to permanent staff transferred during its 1986 relocation. Byrne and Smith were on temporary assignments at the time. The other claims concerned A. Veltom, C. Veltom and I. Zambra.
