The Labour Court upheld a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation that the dismissal of a part-time assistant at Tesco Ireland Limited was not unfair, and disallowed the worker’s appeal. The decision was signed on 2 June 2000. Tesco said some items were not scanned during a checkout transaction and a discount card was used by someone not entitled to it, alleging a loss of £57.42. The worker’s union, Mandate, argued the missed scans were a mistake and that the worker had not received the staff handbook or adequate training. The Labour Court said the Rights Commissioner’s conclusions were supported by the facts.
