The Labour Court overturned a Rights Commissioner's £1,300 recommendation and reinstated Radio Telefis Eireann's October 1999 offer in a dispute over an allowance for two chargehands. The decision was signed on 12 June 2000. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and the Company had both appealed. The workers had received a permanent, pensionable and ranking allowance of £375 a year from 1979. The Company said it intended to subsume the allowance into a new salary scale but failed to notify them because of a clerical error. The reinstated offer provided each worker with a permanent, pensionable personal allowance of £1,000 and a once-off £1,000 ex-gratia payment. The Court found the internal investigation procedure used in 1999 was a valid way to address the claim.
