The Labour Court varied a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation in a voluntary redundancy dispute involving Glanbia Foods and an unnamed worker represented by the Amalgamated Transport & General Workers Union. Its decision was dated 29 September 2000. The Court found the worker’s former position no longer existed, amounting to redundancy unless suitable alternative work could be provided. It said alternative work should be accepted if agreed pay was no less favourable and due regard was given to additional travel.
