The Labour Court rejected Mandate’s appeal and upheld the Rights Commissioner’s recommendation backing Tesco Ireland’s decision not to replace a worker’s privilege card. Its decision was dated 4 December 2000. The card gave the worker a 10% discount and expired while she was on long-term illness absence. Tesco Ireland said a replacement would be issued when she returned to work. Mandate argued that the card rules did not require its withdrawal during an absence and that other employees had kept their cards.
