The Labour Court recommended that a worker at Amann Industries Corporation accept a move from boilerhouse work to a cleaning role while retaining his boilerman rate until normal retirement age. The recommendation was signed on 9 April 2001. The dispute followed a reduction in pay after the worker’s transfer. The union said his contract set his rate at £265 a week and did not allow a reduction; the company relied on its agreement allowing staff transfers and said it needed only one boilerman. The Court said the company-union agreement would probably let the worker rely on seniority in a redundancy situation and also considered his age and potential remaining service.
