The Workplace Relations Commission rejected Okan Karpuz’s unfair dismissal complaint against Bus Atha Cliath Dublin Bus. In a decision dated 14 June 2023, the officer found no procedural breach that could make his dismissal unfair. The case concerned two occasions in 2019 when Karpuz used his mobile phone while driving a bus. Dublin Bus treated phone use while driving as gross misconduct, with dismissal among the possible sanctions. The officer noted that Karpuz received the investigation reports, had the opportunity to give his account and was allowed two appeal opportunities.
