WRC finds no discrimination in sexual harassment complaint against meat processing company

By Tadhg O'Sullivan

Workplace Relations Commission ·

The WRC found that a worker was not discriminated against by a meat processing company after she complained that a co-worker sexually harassed her and the company failed to protect her. The decision was dated 26 June 2023.

The worker said the co-worker touched and kissed her without consent and that she raised concerns with management and human resources. The company said it moved the co-worker from the retail area after she reported concerns and offered to accompany her to her car.

The adjudication officer found the worker’s evidence confusing and contradictory. He said the company acted promptly on the issues brought to its attention and found that she had not raised the more serious allegations of touching and kissing with the company before the hearing. He concluded that she had not established facts from which discrimination could be inferred, and found the complaint not well founded.
