The Workplace Relations Commission dismissed Kevin Conboy’s unfair dismissal complaint, finding that redundancy was the reason for his dismissal. The decision was dated 8 June 2023. Conboy worked as a caretaker and cleaner for the Board of Management -Coláiste Muire Máthair. The school said its amalgamation left three caretakers but funding for only one, and that efforts to agree reduced hours or voluntary redundancy had failed. It selected Conboy, the least recently hired caretaker, for redundancy. The WRC noted that he later declined an offer of temporary cleaning work for 18 hours a week, which he considered financially unviable.
