The Workplace Relations Commission found Patrick Lawlor’s redundancy payment complaint against Murray Pub Group not well founded in a decision dated 7 June 2023. Lawlor argued he was made redundant after being removed from a general manager role on a pub reopening project in 2021. The pub group said it planned to reassign him to another role, but that he stopped working for it. The WRC found the dispute concerned his performance and disagreements over managing the pub, rather than a change in the employer’s staffing needs. It concluded he was not entitled to a redundancy payment. Having decided that issue, the WRC did not need to determine whether the complaint was brought within the time limit.
