The Workplace Relations Commission upheld Helen Ryan’s claim for unpaid statutory redundancy pay, subject to her having been in insurable employment during the stated earlier service period. In a decision dated 9 June 2023, it also found her complaint about unpaid wages and holiday pay well founded and awarded her €257.80 net compensation. Ryan worked at O’Rourkes Pharmacy, which closed in December 2021. The WRC found her service continued through the 2008 transfer of the business and upheld the redundancy claim. It applied an extended time limit to her wages complaint after considering her reliance on others to pursue it and assurances that the money would be paid. The respondent did not attend, and the WRC said its attempts to contact it were undeliverable.
