The WRC recommended that a nursing home offer a cleaner €500 compensation after finding she was unfairly dismissed. The recommendation was dated 6 July 2023. The worker said she was dismissed after asking for extra hours and was not given a chance to answer allegations or have representation. The nursing home said she was unsuitable and unreliable, and that she could have appealed. The adjudicator found she was called to a dismissal meeting without notice of its purpose or a right to be heard or represented; the later appeal option did not make those failures fatal to her case. The adjudicator also found that the worker’s absences had contributed to the situation.
