The Workplace Relations Commission found a chef’s complaint that The Gresham Hotel had not paid him for extra hours was not well founded. The decision was dated 6 July 2023. Arturas Kononovas said he should have received time off in lieu or payment for extra hours when he resigned. He worked initially for €12.50 an hour and was later promoted to junior sous chef at €16 an hour. The clock-in system showed 542 hours in his lieu bank, but Kononovas did not claim the full amount. The adjudicator said he gave no concrete example of unpaid extra hours and that the available payslips were insufficient to verify his claim. The hotel did not attend the hearing, but the adjudicator was satisfied it had notice. The complaint was not well founded because Kononovas had not established that his wages were unlawfully deducted.
