The Workplace Relations Commission awarded Magdalena Mojzesz €500 in compensation after finding that her Limerick salon employer’s dismissal process had failed to give her an opportunity to appeal. The decision was dated 24 July 2023. Longhair Studio And Accademy Limited cited attendance, timekeeping and customer complaints, and said Mojzesz had received verbal warnings. The WRC said the circumstances surrounding the dismissal were unclear, but found that the parties deemed the dismissal to have occurred by 30 December 2022. It identified failings in the employer’s process and upheld the complaint on that basis. The WRC also found that Mojzesz contributed to her dismissal. It noted that she found new work about eight weeks later and was earning more than before. The €500 compensation was the amount awarded for the unfair dismissal complaint.
