The Workplace Relations Commission ordered Lidl Gmbh to repay €425 to former employee Maciej Sosnowski after finding that part of a wage deduction was not permitted. The decision was dated 28 July 2023. Sosnowski said Lidl deducted money from his final pay to recover overpayments without his consent and failed to explain his pay promptly. Lidl said the deductions covered overpayments from 2007 and 2022 and were authorised by his contract. The adjudicator found the contract permitted deductions during his 2022 employment, but did not allow the older debt to be recovered retrospectively. Lidl was ordered to repay €425 and offset it against the amount due to Sosnowski.
