South Dublin County Council defeats housing discrimination complaint

By Orla Quinn

Workplace Relations Commission ·

The Workplace Relations Commission found that South Dublin County Council did not discriminate against David Crosby in handling his housing applications. Adjudication officer Hugh Lonsdale’s decision was dated 29 May 2024.

Crosby complained about the council’s initial refusals of medical priority for his son and a discretionary Housing Assistance Payment top-up, along with delays and an incomplete report. The council said medical priority and the top-up had since been granted and disputed that the administrative complaints could be brought under the Equal Status Act.

Lonsdale found Crosby had not shown less favourable treatment on family status or disability grounds, or discrimination on the Housing Assistance ground. He excluded documents concerning later events because they fell outside the complaint’s time parameters.
