The Workplace Relations Commission allowed Bernadette Corry’s redundancy appeal and found her minimum-notice complaint well founded after her employer’s business closed. Corry also withdrew a separate minimum-wage complaint. The decision is dated 17 May 2024. Corry worked as a shop assistant for Europhil Service Station Ltd. from 31 March 2006 until 19 September 2023. She said she had not received redundancy or notice pay and could not reach the employer after the closure. The employer did not attend the hearing despite being notified. The WRC said Corry was entitled to statutory redundancy calculated at two weeks per year or part-year of service, plus a week, subject to confirmation that her employment was insurable for this purpose. It also awarded her eight weeks’ notice pay.
