The Workplace Relations Commission recommended that an employer pay a worker €2,000 after finding his dismissal during probation unfair because it lacked fair procedures. The recommendation was dated 23 May 2024. The worker said he was dismissed without notice and had not received a contract setting out probation terms; the employer cited attendance and punctuality problems. The WRC found the employer had no structured probation reviews or documented improvement plan. It took account of the worker’s contribution to his dismissal and his short period of employment. The WRC also recommended that the employer introduce a specific probation policy.
