The Workplace Relations Commission dismissed two complaints by Karla Iglesias against Firebyrd Chicken Limited after she did not attend a hearing. The decision was dated 18 June 2024. Iglesias alleged race and gender discrimination in pay, constructive dismissal and a holiday-pay issue. The company said her student visa had expired, that she had been properly paid and that a holiday-pay discrepancy had been corrected. The WRC refused a postponement requested the day before the hearing, finding the reasons insufficient and the request untimely. A friend attended but could not present Iglesias’s case. The merits were not decided.
