The Workplace Relations Commission awarded Jake Dowd Gilligan €1,000 after finding Conlon Fuel Oils Limited had unfairly dismissed him. In a decision dated 29 May 2025, the WRC found the company had not established that the dismissal was fair. Gilligan said he was dismissed without apparent cause or an internal procedure. The company said his employment ended naturally when he returned to university and his intended contract ended. The WRC found there had been no formal procedure or consultation to establish redundancy or another lawful basis for dismissal.
