The WRC did not recommend that a worker be appointed permanently as an Area Supervisor at a local authority after he placed sixth in a recruitment panel. In a recommendation dated 26 July 2023, Adjudication Officer Breiffni O'Neill said he had to accept the interview outcome. The worker said he had acted in the role for nearly four years and believed he had been promised the permanent post. The local authority said permanent positions had to be filled through competition and that acting-up entitlements ended when the assignment ceased. The officer noted that the worker took part in the recruitment process without objecting to the panel. He was placed on a live panel, but there was no vacancy for him at that time.
