The Workplace Relations Commission recommended that An Garda Siochana offer A Garda Sergeant €3,000 over delays and errors in a competition for a station Sergeant-in-charge role. The recommendation was dated 14 June 2024. The sergeant succeeded in the competition, but the former post-holder returned before it concluded, leaving no vacancy. The WRC said the process involved errors and contradictions and described the situation as unusual and possibly unprecedented. It recommended that the sergeant accept the competition was over and had been successful, with possible appointment if the position became vacant by December 2024. The WRC declined to recommend on the separate Code 11.37 sick-pay issue because it formed part of a collective process; the merits were not decided.
