The Labour Court recommended €5,000 gross compensation for each District Fire Officer employed in that role on 19 January 2021, in a dispute over annual leave. The recommendation was signed on 14 July 2023. Dublin City Council - Dublin Fire Brigade and 50 District Fire Officers, represented by SIPTU and FORSA, disagreed over which officers qualified and whether the payment should be ex gratia. The unions sought coverage for staff employed from 2017, while the employer proposed using 19 January 2021 as the qualifying date. The Court recommended payment for officers who met that date-based criterion.
