The Workplace Relations Commission awarded Andrei Mircea Simioanca €550, equal to two weeks’ wages, after finding that Square Hair & Beauty Limited failed to provide written terms of employment. The decision was dated 25 July 2023. The company accepted that it did not give Simioanca a written statement until August, although he had been told the general outline of his terms orally. It argued that he suffered no detriment and that any breach was technical. The WRC said written terms are a statutory requirement and rejected the argument that the breach was too minor to warrant a remedy. The two complaints concerned the Terms of Employment (Information) Act 1994.
