The Workplace Relations Commission found that Cians On Bridge Street unlawfully withheld wages and holiday pay from chef Damian Basak, directing the company to pay him €2,990.13 net compensation. The decision was dated 9 August 2023. Basak complained that wages and statutory holiday entitlements had not been paid during or at the end of his employment. The WRC found that €1,786.13 in wages had been withheld, that €840 remained due for annual leave, and that €364 was due for public holidays. The company did not attend the hearing; the WRC proceeded after finding reasonable efforts had been made to notify it, and considered Basak’s sworn evidence, payslips and bank statement.
