Deirdre Kenny was awarded a statutory redundancy lump sum after the Workplace Relations Commission found her employer, Triqwantum Ltd Lumy By Paris, could not meet its redundancy obligations. The decision was dated 15 May 2024. Kenny said she received no redundancy payment after her employment ended on 31 December 2023. The company did not attend the hearing. The Adjudication Officer found it was genuinely unable to pay because of financial difficulties or insolvency, so Kenny could claim through the Redundancy Payments Scheme, subject to her having been in insurable employment. The officer also upheld Kenny’s complaint that she had not received a Statement of Affairs proving the employer’s inability to pay. The lump sum was based on her employment dates and gross weekly pay of €500.
