The WRC recommended €2,000 compensation for a worker who was paid below the minimum wage and not reimbursed for travel to Donegal. In a recommendation dated 25 June 2024, it said the low pay caused hardship and that leaving an apprentice to tell the worker he was being laid off showed shabby treatment. The worker said he accepted €10 an hour after being promised a pay increase, but received none. The construction company said work was ending and that it had tried to find him more work.
