WRC recommends talks on lecturer’s €7,500 allowance

The WRC recommended that a third-level college begin discussions about folding a part-time lecturer’s €7,500 responsibility allowance into her salary, in a recommendation dated 2 August 2023. The lecturer said her hours and income varied from year to year and sought greater certainty. The college said her core contract was being fulfilled and was willing to consider consolidating the allowance. The adjudication officer said the wider claim affected a grade of workers and negotiations with the lecturer’s union were under way. The WRC made no recommendation on those other matters.
