The Labour Court recommended that Greyhound Racing Operations Limited (Greyhound Racing Irl) give a worker €450 and two additional days’ leave after the employer failed to hold a promised review meeting. Its recommendation, dated 23 June 2023, resolved a dispute arising from the employer’s response to reduced revenue during the Covid pandemic, which included a proposal to cut the worker’s week from five days to four. The worker opposed the proposed reduction and said she understood her pay would fall by 20% if she continued working five days. She later sought repayment for days worked without pay. An adjudication officer had recommended payment for each Friday she worked without pay from 18 February 2021 until her pay was restored in June 2021. The Labour Court considered the matter as a trade dispute under the Industrial Relations Acts, not as a claim about the worker’s individual statutory employment rights.
