The Labour Court upheld an Adjudication Officer’s recommendation that a worker employed by the Legal Aid Board was excluded from the statutory definition of “worker”. The Court’s decision was signed on 17 July 2023. The worker had appealed the recommendation. The Court found the employee was employed by or under the State and therefore excluded from the definition of worker under the Industrial Relations Acts. The dispute could not be considered under those Acts, so the merits were not decided.
